Millegome

Garden house with office and storage function. Client and his son were intesively involved in the design proces which resulted in custom, playful and children-friendly details. Onsite designed and built with materials of the softly demolished old garden house and other local waste materials as car tyres and insulation glass.

Functional four-season garden house with office and storage spaces.

Re-used wood, car tyres, and insulation glass, stainless steel trays, size 8x3x3 meters

Our client was in need of additional space, facing a 2nd child to be born. we proposed to carefully break down the existing chalet-style garden house, re-using its materials and rebuild a bigger, more functional and efficient structure. client and his family were intensively involved in the onsite design and building proces, adding function and personal whishes. The office space is accesed by a side-door with children's-height window and the storage opens its shutter like a spaceship on the front facade. during the first winter wind, rain, and snow tested this protoype and encouraged us to build more indepenent units. no permission needed.

The main construction is based on wooden frames covered with thin multiplex plates. for a water- and winterproof facade we added stonewool isolation, a breathable plastic membrane and a layer of old car tyre treads. windows are 2nd hand isolation glass (we saved it from a bankrupt glass store). ventilation is ensured by 4 openings in roof and walls. the interiour paneling consists of different kinds of re-used wood.
